Welcome to Blue Skies & Salt!

I’m Maria -

an artist and writer who’s following her heart’s desires. The makings of a good day is creating beautiful art with my hands, chatting with farmers and chasing the sun. If you hang out for a bit, you’ll soon realize this space is more than pretty objects. It’s a cozy spot, full of encouragement and inspiration.

I’ve been a painter since childhood, and love to go shelling. In the fall of 2022, Hurricane Ian hit my beloved shelling spot, Sanibel Island. I wanted to help, so I started making seashell art. 5% of revenue from all shell art sold will be donated to Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.

When I’m not making art, I’m interviewing farmers for my passion project known as Blue Skies and Grit. In 2021, I was inspired by a local beekeeper when learning about the health benefits of raw honey. I had a lightbulb moment (a God wink, if you will) to start interviewing farmers. I have a professional background in journalism, and it was time to put it to good use. Agriculture is vital to our well-being, and learning about it first-hand from those who work so hard at it is truly special.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, with a Minor degree in Studio Art from Hood College.

Annapolis, Maryland is home, alongside my husband and two children. We love being outdoors, and fuss over which is better - the beach or the mountains.

Blessings + Blue Skies,

Maria
